Forty years after they parted, Marijke seeks out her former lover Marcel by sending a letter to his old hometown. Instead the letter is received by Marcella – Marcel transitioned from male to female some years ago, but she hasn’t forgotten about Marijke – and their love is soon rekindled.

Even if Marcella’s transgender status is surprisingly and refreshingly not an issue for Marijke, can the reunited couple adjust to a new relationship and weather the storm of long-distance love and homesickness?
