Hollywood is a tough town, but struggling actress Jamie thinks she knows what casting directors want. She joins the L.A. masses in her best skirt, heels, and jewelry at audition after audition hoping to catch her big break. There’s just one problem – Jamie’s playing a character before she even steps in front of the camera. She’s a spiky-haired butch dyke, not a frilly femme fatale! And judging from the callbacks she gets (or rather lack thereof) it shows.
When Jamie finds out that her roommate’s pet-cat-actor Howard is getting more work than she is, Jamie decides to throw in the acting towel, but she is determined to go out with a bang. Taking her best friend David’s advice, Jamie goes to her last audition as herself: wallet chain, leather bracelets, and all. Much to her surprise, she is called into the producer’s office and offered the lead role – the male lead role! With her acting career in danger of ending before it starts, Jamie reluctantly agrees. So with fake facial hair and men’s wardrobe in place, filming begins and things seem to be going well enough. That is, until Jamie’s relationship with the straight female lead takes a romantic turn. What will happen if Jamie’s leading lady learns the truth? - Jessica Wilkie, Rochester Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival (edited) Sponsored by Marquee Rents |
